Minister Nzimande to address the inaugural consultative and planning meeting of the PanAfrica postgraduate university for policy studies in Africa

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande will today, the 21st October 2022, address the inaugural consultative and planning meeting of the PanAfrika Postgraduate University for Policy Studies in Africa, which is  taking place in Dakar - Senegal. 

 

The consultative meeting is held under the auspices of the Southern Africa Political Economy Series (SAPES) Trust, a Non-Governmental organisation established in 1987 with its headquarters in Harare, Zimbabwe. 

 

The main objective of the organisation is to promote the spirit of Pan Africanism, African liberation, and the intellectual discourses on regional integration in Southern Africa.  The Trust seeks to nurture social science research, teaching, policy dialogue, networking and publications in the Southern African region and beyond, through specific programmes with deliberate intent to impact policy and assist in the sustainable development of the region.

 

Minister Nzimande said South Africa, through our National Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) is contributing significantly in ensuring excellence, integrity and dynamism of the Humanities and Social Science. “The NIHSS enhances and coordinates scholarship, research and ethical practice in the fields of the humanities and social sciences,” said Minister Nzimande.

 

The Minister said mission of the NIHSS is to redress existing deficits and to coordinate programmes, projects, collaborations and activities in the humanities and social sciences (HSS) disciplines within and through existing and future public universities.

 

Minister Nzimande further said through the Human Science Research Council (HSRC), South Africa remains a regional and global leader in the production and dissemination of transformative social science and humanities research in the interests of a just and equal society.

 

“The HSRC produces leading-edge policy research, through engaged scholarship, to utilise in understanding and  explaining social conditions and informing social change for inclusive growth in communities,” said Minister Nzimande.

 

Minister Nzimande said South Africa is looking forward to further collaboration with the Southern Africa Political Economy Series (SAPES) Trust on the establishment of this Pan Afrika Postgraduate University through the mobilisation of both the South African post school education and training and the nation system of innovation sectors.
