African App Launchpad Cup 2021

The government of Egypt has opened applications for the African App Launchpad Cup 2021. The competition is open to African startups in gaming and app development from all qualifying countries, including South Africa.


The African App Launchpad (AAL) is an Africa-wide platform which aims to build the capacity of African youth and foster African startups in the ever-growing field of app and game technologies. Its goal is to develop the capacity of 10 000 youths and assist in the initiation of 100 startups in gaming and app development across Africa.


Criteria for participating in the competition

  • Citizens of the qualified countries.
  • Teams or startups up to 2 years old.
  • Teams made up of at least 2 members.
  • Applicants with a working prototype.

  • The total cash purse for the Winners is US$72 000.
  • Opportunity for business planning training by GrindStone.
  • Opportunity for an Acceleration Program by Microsoft through THINKROOM.
  • Opportunity to free access to VCs for top winning startups.
  • Opportunity for free top-quality learning track in one of the advanced app and game technologies.
  • Winners will be given a prestigious international certificate after completing the learning track.
  • Opportunity to attend a local learning group to experience cross-learning and discuss the business impact of the underlying technologies.
  • Opportunity to join startup competitions where each individual winning startup is granted $2 000 in addition to a possible seed fund or incubation service.
