The latest South African Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators Report will be launched at a webinar on Thursday, 26 August.

The report, commissioned by the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI), outlines South Africa's performance in various areas linked to science, technology and innovation, which have a significant impact on the economy.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, will give an address, and a member of the NACI Council, Dhesigen Naidoo, will present the report.

The report shows that, while the country has established a good foundation in research and development capacity development, its continued poor performance in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study shows that human capital pipeline challenges remain among South Africa's chief impediments to innovation.

Other indicators covered by the report include business sector investment in research and development in South Africa, venture capital investment, and the output of high and medium technology manufacturing as compared to previous years.

The webinar will also include a presentation on the findings of an exploratory study on the state of innovation in the technical and vocational education and training sector.  This will be made by Mr Isaiah Engelbrecht, another member of the NACI Council.
