The Minister of Science and Technology, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, will deliver a keynote address at the State of Dis-ease conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 26 March 2019.

 

The four-day conference, focusing on the state of health and illness in South Africa from a multi-disciplinary perspective, is being hosted by the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) with the support of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

 

Minister Kubayi-Ngubane will address delegates on the second day of the gathering on the role of science and technology in preventing and combating disease and promoting the wellbeing of citizens, as follows:

Over the past decade, the DST has launched a number of strategic research, development and innovation initiatives aimed at harnessing the capabilities of universities, science councils and the private sector, and combining their knowledge and expertise in order to produce new drugs and therapies for the treatment of priority diseases in South Africa.
