SA Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators Report to be launched by the National Advisory Council on Innovation

Strengthening local innovation systems to achieve national objectives is the theme for the annual National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) symposium to launch the SA Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Indicators Report.  The event takes place on 28 June 2018.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Ms Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, will deliver the keynote address at the symposium, which will be held at the National Botanical Gardens in Pretoria.  Dr Azar Jammine, an economist and NACI council member, will present the findings of the report.

The programme will include a panel discussion on strengthening local innovation systems.

The report is based on the South African Innovation Scorecard, a framework developed by NACI in the 2016/17 financial year. The framework groups STI activities into three components, namely, the public sector’s enabling activities, firm-level innovation activities, and the economic and social outputs of innovation.

NACI is carrying out an STI foresight exercise this year, and needs information for planning from various sources.  The symposium is an important opportunity to facilitate discussion around the trends and future shape of the national system of innovation.
