The countdown to Science Forum South Africa 2017 has begun

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is proud to bring you Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) 2017. The international event, with a strong Africa focus, is aimed at enriching the national public discourse on the importance and role of science in society.

Building on the momentum and conversations established during the first two events, the international forum will take place on 7 and 8 December and provide the DST with an informal platform to consult with a broad range of stakeholders.

As with the previous events, SFSA 2017 will stimulate a vibrant debate on the role of science, technology and innovation in society; and create a networking platform for key science, technology and innovation actors, including senior government leaders, academics, researchers, industry, civil society, and students.

The event will take place at the CSIR International Convention Centre, in Pretoria, providing the opportunity for all interested parties to "ignite conversations about science".

Focusing on science, technology, and innovation in Africa, with more than 50 speakers from across Africa, the forum will include themes such as "Preparing people for the knowledge economy", "Open science and open innovation for Africa’s development", "Science transforming society" and "Innovation shaping the industry of tomorrow".

This year's programme will have three plenary panel discussions, 39 parallel panel discussions, and 32 science talks. With more than 260 speakers, 120 of them from abroad, and nearly 70 exhibits on the side, there will be plenty to spark conversations about science.

The Department of Science and Technology invites you to follow the conversation at #SFSA2017.
