Mathematics and Science education in Sutherland-home to the Southern African Large Telescope, will  receive a much needed boost with the donation of mobile science labs by  the Department of Science and Technology.

Roggeveld Primary School and Sutherland High School, will receive the equipment on Thursday. Last year Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor visited schools in the area. The schools lacked science learning and teaching equipment.

The Minister promised to assist the community with learning equipment to improve the learning standards, thereby inspiring young people to pursue careers in science, engineering and technology.

Sutherland is home to the SALT, the largest single optical telescope, and exposure to learners’ knowledge of science and technology will contribute to the country’s quest to develop future astronomers.
