Astronomy Management Authority (AMA)

The Astronomy Management Authority (AMA) is a directorate within the DSI, designated by the Minister of Science and Innovation in terms of Section 15 (1) of the AGA Act, to be responsible for the management of declared AAAs in terms of the AGA Act and its regulations. 

AMA is the custodian of the permanent register of interested and affected parties for the declared AAAs, and is responsible for ensuring the protection of declared AAAs against sources of interference for astronomical activities and related scientific endeavours. Such a responsibility extends to processes required to support the development and implementation of declarations and regulations, including public consultation on matters concerning nationally significant astronomy advantage areas and the declaration of equipment for optical and radio astronomy.
