The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will deliver the keynote address at the 53rd National Science Olympiad Awards Ceremony on 6 July 2017 at Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg.
 
The Awards Ceremony celebrates the top achievers in the 2017 National Science Olympiad.  The competition comprises an annual examination in science (Physical and Life Sciences) and is open to learners in Grades 10 to 12.
 
The National Science Olympiad contributes towards talent identification and human capital development in science, engineering, technology and innovation (SETI).  The Olympiad also supports learner and educator development activities and exposes participants to career opportunities in SETI.
 
The Awards are preceded by the Science Focus Week, which commenced on 2 July 2017 in Pretoria.  The Science Focus Week is attended by over 100 top performers in the Olympiad and includes learners from Zimbabwe, Namibia and Lesotho.
