The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, travels to Swaziland tomorrow (22 June 2017) to attend the Joint Meeting of Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ministers Responsible for Education and Training, Science, Technology and Innovation.
 
Among other things, the ministers will discuss progress made in the implementation of the decisions adopted in the previous meeting, which took place in Gaborone, Botswana, in June last year. The discussion will take place in the context of the revised SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (2015-2020), as well as other relevant continental and international policy frameworks.
 
Today (21 June 2017) the Academy of Science of South Africa is hosting a half-day information-sharing workshop on progress made in establishing science academies in the SADC region.
 
The South African delegation will comprise officials from the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Basic Education, and the Department of Higher Education and Training.  Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will lead the DBE delegation.
 
Others attending will include ministers from Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa.
