The Centre for Research on Science and Technology CREST - The Centre for Research on Science and Technology
The Centre for Research on Science and Technology is a research institution of the University of Stellenbosch. Their objectives are to conduct research on the nature of science and technology with specific reference to science and technology policy in South Africa. And secondly to conduct research on, and improve, the 'meta-fields' of methodology and sociology of science.
National Research Foundation NRF - National Research Foundation
The National Research Foundation supports and promotes research through funding, human resource development and the provision of the necessary research facilities, in order to facilitate the creation of knowledge, innovation and development in all fields of the natural and social sciences, humanities and technology.

Categories for Research Funding of the NRF:

  • International funding and research opportunities
    - A wide variety of international opportunities for South African researchers, including regularly updated calls for proposals. Latest calls (IASSA calling all young scientists) posted on 18 January 2005 and (India-SA bilateral) posted on 11 January 2005.

  • Scholarships and Fellowships Programme calls for 2005 open
    - The NRF invites applications for the Department of Labour's scarce skills scholarships for masters and doctoral study in 2005, as well as for freestanding postdoctoral fellowships for 2004/2005. The closing date for applications in both instances is 15 August 2004.

  • IRDP and Thuthuka calls for proposals 2005 now open
    - Researchers are invited to apply for research funding within the Institutional Research Development Programme (Technikon Research Development and University Research Development) as well as the Thuthuka Programme. The closing date for applications in both instances is 23 August 2004.

  • Focus Area Programme call now closed
    - The DPRU was formed in 1990 to undertake economic development and policy-oriented research. It coordinates research activities in trade policy, industrial policy science and technology policy. The FAP has closed its call for proposals for funding in 2005. The closing date for applications was 14 May 2004.
