Academic Qualifications - Masters Degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Career - He was elected National Organiser of Black People's Convention (BPC) at its founding Congress in December 1972.
- He is the Former Chairman of Black Consciousness Movement of Azania (BCMA) and Commander-in-Chief of the Azanian National Liberation Army (AZANLA).
- He is currently the National President of Azapo.
- He was appointed Deputy Minister of Education on 24 January 2001.
Publications
He is the author of four books, namely: On Your Own, A Twin World, A Quest For True Humanity and My Grandmother is Permanent.

Career - 1971: Compulsory military conscription - Potchefstroom.
- 1972 - Mid 1974: Travelled widely, working in Europe, America and Israel. Did various jobs, including farm work in England and Israel.
- Mid 1974 - end 1977: Various jobs in Johannesburg.
- 1978 - end 1983: Farmed in Magaliesburg - dairy, poultry and vegetables.
- 1983 - 1986: Served prison sentence in Pretoria for political activities.
- 1986 - 1987: Coordinator of the Administrative Training Project in Johannesburg. This was a project servicing organisations which required assistance and training in office administration and bookkeeping. These organisations included trade unions and church organisations.
- 1988 - 1990: Coordinator of the Popular History Trust in Harare, Zimbabwe.
- 1990 - May 1994: Coordinator of ANC Land and Agricultural Desk, responsible for policy development and acting as spokesperson for the ANC on agricultural matters.
- May 1994 - 1999: Minister of Land Affairs.
- 1999 - presently: Member of Parliament
